California was under U.S. control by January 1847 and formally annexed and paid for by the U.S.in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo signed in 1848.
California was given official statehood by Congress on September 9, 1850, as part of the Compromise of 1850.
There are many places to search for answers to your California genealogy questions. If you know what is available, you can make much better use of your time and effort in finding out all you can about your California ancestors in the US. Here is where to start some of your searching.
