Transcribe Census Forms

Transcribing Your Census Data Finds Requires Accuracy

When you need to transcribe census forms from microfilm to paper you really need the proper paper forms!

Transcribing census forms allow you to easily copy the data from a census form on microfilm. If you research a census and find a page with your family on it, you need to get that information into a format you can take home with you.

This could be done by printing a copy on a microfilm printer or by saving a copy to a file from the web site you are working on.

Often, however, you will have to read the information on the microfilm, and then write it down or transcribe it to paper.

To do that effectively, you need a transcribe form that matches the census form format so it is easy to read and write the information in the same order.

So you need to make, buy, or download census forms to do that.

Several online genealogy web sites have forms you can download to use for transcribing census information. If you are seeking forms for the United States census, you can usually find them easily enough.

If you are looking for forms for Canadian or British censuses, your choices are much more limited, and the forms for the census year you need may not be available at all.

In that case, you will need to make your own forms. You can do so in most word processing programs by using the table (or similar) feature available to you.

If you need to make a form for the transcription of census data, you will need to know the questions asked in each of the census years.
