1861 East and West Canada Census Questions

In these two colonies the 1861 East and West Canada census was to record the information asked for everyone who lived in the house on the night of January 13, 1861, to include both those who lived there and any visitors on that date. For any member of the household who was absent that night, they were also to be recorded here.

In those years, Canada East was roughly what is today the province of Quebec, and Canada West was the present day southern Ontario. In previous years, they were also referred to as Lower Canada and Upper Canada.

These were the questions asked by the enumerator.
